Hi, I'm Ashley!
I'm a multi-certified professional dog trainer and the founder of Co-Regulated K-9s. I decided to create this company because I saw a need for dog parents to get relief from the stress their dog's behavior was causing them without relying on harsh training methods in order to get there. I also saw how confusing it was out there for pet parents with so much contradictory information on how best to navigate behavioral challenges. It's why all my training programs provide evidence-based guidance that is easy to understand, while still prioritizing the mental health of both human and canine.
About Me
Before starting Co-Regulated K-9s, I spent over a decade working in mental health and over 15 years training animals. I studied psychology and animal-assisted psychotherapy in undergrad, and I grew up surrounded by every kind of animal you could imagine—including my fearful rescue dog, Maggie, and my spirited horse, Smokey.
A pivotal moment in my journey was working as the Adoption Coordinator at Kitsap Humane Society. This role ignited my passion for dog behavior. I had the privilege of working with thousands of dogs from diverse backgrounds, each with their own unique needs. The incredible staff and dogs at the shelter taught me so much, and because of that, shelter dogs will always hold a special place in my heart.
After leaving the shelter, I pursued certifications in professional dog training, mentored by experts who helped me grow my experience with complex behavior cases. My path has always been a blend of human mental health and animal welfare. As a trainer, I create a safe space for the messy and complicated parts of life that can affect training, while also providing practical solutions to lighten the load.
I’m committed to continual learning and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in biology, with research focused on the co-evolution of humans and dogs. My approach to training goes beyond rewards and consequences—it's holistic, ethical, and built around understanding the needs of both you and your dog.
